A Hogwarts Mystery: Talbott Winger x Reader - Celestial ball - Page 2 (2024)

When they settled comfortably beside each other, he had finally calmed down to begin to speak, although it was still a bit shaky. Deliberately avoiding looking at her face, he knew that it would be a challenge to conceal the admiration he was feeling as he sat there with her by his side. Instead, he moved his eyes to her forehead, at her headpiece, and then to the area behind her, trying to speak without revealing how flustered he felt right now.

"Why have you come out?" he inquired softly, his gaze still up on the dark sky, thanking that the soft glow of the moon was able to conceal the reddening of his cheeks. He couldn't bring himself to look at her directly; he's afraid that by looking at her, she would eventually see the state he was in. He was afraid that by looking at her, the emotions he was struggling to contain would surface, and she'd know.

Y/n leaned back, her arms supporting her, as she stretched her legs with a soft sigh of relief. The strain from the hours of dancing and standing had clearly taken its toll on her. She replied, "I grew tired of the dancing." Her voice was sincere and warm.

Talbott couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment as he looked away, his thoughts drifting back to the missed opportunity of inviting her to the celestial ball. He had tried and mustered the courage to attend the event and ask y/n to be his date. However, his hopes were dashed when he learned from Andre that he had already invited her, and she had accepted the invitation.

Hearing that and feeling down, Talbott's enthusiasm for the prospect of attending the ball waned. He had wished he had acted sooner and taken the initiative to ask her a few days after the announcement of the ball. He had a lot of opportunity; they've been meeting with each other for the past few days, and yet he didn't find it in himself to try and ask her out.

But as he glanced at his beautiful "friend" with a small, resigned smile, he realised that dwelling on the missed chances wouldn't change the present. Perhaps there would be other opportunities in the future, but for now, he decided to make the most of this moment, cherishing the friendship they had.

"So... are you meeting someone here?" y/n asked after a while of comfortable silence, her voice gentle and mellow.

Talbott raised an eyebrow at her question and then turned his gaze from the sky to meet her eyes. He considered her words for a moment before speaking. "Why would you think I will be waiting for someone here tonight?" she blinked at him, trying to see if he's seriously asking her that. Then she gave him a small smile. "I just thought you had things or someone to spend instead of attending the ball..." she answered, her voice unsure.

He smiled to assure her, "No, I'm not meeting anyone here, y/n. I simply preferred some alone time tonight." His words were honest, and he appreciated her curiosity.

She studied his expression, hoping to catch a glimpse of the emotions he kept so well hidden. She couldn't help but sigh in defeat when she didn't manage to unravel his emotion. His ability to maintain his composure and not show any signs of it truly amazed her. He could smile and/or roll her eyes with her when they were together, but that's it. She doesn't know how to comprehend those small bits of emotion he managed to show, because when he did, she blanks out until it's too late.

He glanced at her briefly, his dark eyes glinting, and added, "And I find the night sky and the stars much better company." He joked, earning him her beautiful laughter. "That's mean of you." She pouts as she crosses her arms after playfully shoving him away from her. "I assure you; I am a delight to be with!"

Talbott couldn't help but chuckle softly at her reactions. "I didn't mean to be mean, y/n." he replied with a hint of amusement. "And I'm sure you are a delight to be with. I wouldn't be spending tonight with you if not..." he added. "But really, the night sky has its own charm. It's calm and... beautiful. Just like the company I enjoy the most." He offered her a smile, the kind that only she can bring out in him.
